Welcome to Jon and Mandy’s pre-wedding photoshoot at Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.
Being a photographer means I get to shoot photos in some pretty cool locations.
However, doing a pre-wedding photoshoot on imposing Arthur’s Seat is always great due to the beautiful cityscape backdrop.

Arthur’s Seat pre-wedding photoshoot in Edinburgh
The pre-wedding photos in this gallery show a few of my favourite images of Jon and Mandy during their photo shoot at Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh.
Pre-wedding photoshoots are a pure joy for photographers.
It’s a chance to capture a couple’s chemistry and love story in a relaxed, unhurried environment before the whirlwind of the wedding day.
These shoots allow you to experiment creatively, building trust with the couple while documenting their unique connection.
It’s about capturing candid laughs, stolen glances, and moments that feel authentically them.
Every photo becomes a cherished keepsake, adding depth to the couple’s wedding journey.
St. Anthony’s Chapel ruin in Holyrood Park is a magical spot for pre-wedding photos.
Perched on a hillside with panoramic views of Edinburgh, this historic ruin blends romantic nostalgia with breathtaking natural beauty.
The rugged stonework of the chapel adds texture and character, creating a dramatic contrast to soft, loving poses.
Whether the couple leans against the ancient walls or walks hand-in-hand around the site, the ruin exudes timeless charm.
The surrounding landscape is equally enchanting.
With Arthur’s Seat rising in the background, serene lochs below, and golden-hour light casting a dreamy glow, every angle is a masterpiece waiting to happen.
The park’s mix of craggy cliffs, lush greenery, and wide-open skies allows endless variety in your shots—perfect for capturing intimate close-ups and sweeping expansive views.
The location’s sense of serenity is unmatched, creating a peaceful atmosphere where couples feel comfortable and at ease.
And for couples who love the outdoors or history, St. Anthony’s Chapel adds a meaningful layer to their story.
Shooting here is a photographer’s dream—it combines raw beauty, a touch of Edinburgh’s rich heritage, and a canvas for creativity that guarantees magical, heartfelt images.
Every frame tells a story, making the pre-wedding shoot as memorable as the big day.
I’ve done many pre-wedding photoshoots in and around Edinburgh, but this location was extra special for Jon and Mandy.
Jon proposed to Mandy at St Margaret’s Loch, at the bottom of this famous Edinburgh landmark.
Mandy said yes, so there was no doubt about where today’s photo shoot would take place!
It was one of the windiest photo shoots I’ve been on, but it was worth the effort.
We started our photoshoot at St. Margaret’s Loch and then went up the steep slopes to the old ruin.
This area can be very busy with tourists, but the high winds seemed to deter all but the most determined sightseers.
The view of Edinburgh was fantastic and such a beautiful backdrop for many of the photos.
It’s well worth getting ourselves and the photographic equipment up the steep slopes!
After a couple of hours, we had an excellent selection of photos.
It was great spending time with Jon and Mandy in preparation for their forthcoming wedding at the wonderful Surgeons’ Hall in Edinburgh city centre.
Thanks to Jon and Mandy for braving the elements for this pre-wedding photoshoot at Arthur’s Seat.
I do not doubt that their wedding day will be terrific fun to photograph, and thankfully, the weather won’t affect us.
Surgeons’ Hall is perfect for shooting beautiful wedding photos indoors. It has plenty of space and a wonderful interior backdrop.
**Since I created this blog post, I’ve photographed Jona and Mandy’s wedding day, which you can see here.
