Here are some of our favourite photos from Megan and Merle’s intimate destination wedding at Neidpath Castle.
A Brief History Of Neidpath Castle
Neidpath Castle, perched above the River Tweed near Peebles, is steeped in centuries of history and offers a magical wedding setting.
Built in the 14th century by the Fraser family, this majestic stone fortress has seen its fair share of Scottish history, from noble gatherings to moments of romance and intrigue.
Later, it was owned by the powerful Hay family and became a hub of activity during the turbulent years of the Scottish Wars of Independence and Jacobite uprisings.
Its weathered walls and dramatic battlements echo a storied past, creating an atmosphere that’s as romantic as it is enchanting.
Today, Neidpath Castle is a sought-after wedding venue, beloved for its historic charm and breathtaking surroundings.
The castle’s interiors exude rustic elegance, with ancient stonework, vaulted ceilings, and roaring fireplaces that create an intimate, atmospheric vibe.
Couples can exchange vows in the Great Hall, which radiates a timeless grandeur or opt for an outdoor ceremony overlooking the lush Tweed Valley.
The surrounding grounds are equally magical for wedding photos.
The castle’s elevated position provides sweeping views of the river, rolling hills, and woodland, offering endless backdrops for romantic, fairytale-like shots.
Picture newlyweds walking under the archway or stealing a kiss beside the centuries-old stone walls.
With its blend of dramatic history, stunning scenery, and unique charm, Neidpath Castle is a truly magical location that ensures unforgettable memories and wedding photos that look like they’ve stepped out of a storybook.
It’s a venue where history and romance come together beautifully.
Our day as Neidpath Castle photographer began with the groom, Merle, who looked incredible in a kilt and tartan plaid, embracing the Scottish tradition.
Genuinely one of the nicest guys, we had a great time catching shots of Merle with his closest gathering of family and friends outside the castle.
Standing at the altar, excitement and anticipation mingle with a flood of emotions as Merle sees Megan for the first time.
His heart swells with overwhelming love and admiration.
Megan is a vision of beauty as she walks down the aisle with her proud father.
This beautifully intimate ceremony celebrated their love, dreams, and promise of a fantastic future together. It was such a joyful occasion and a delight to photograph.
After warm congratulations, we took the happy couple for their wedding photoshoot, capturing the fresh, radiant joy of these beautiful souls, their smiles broad and eyes sparkling with happiness.
They hold hands, interlaced fingers, and gaze into each other’s eyes, lost in their shared bliss.
As experienced Neidpath Castle photographers, we captured the magical moments as their love story unfolded in beautiful, evocative images.
Each photo shows their joy, commitment, and unforgettable memories of their romantic day.
Frequently Asked Questions: Neidpath Castle Wedding Photography
Why should we hire a specialist Neidpath Castle wedding photographer?
Neidpath Castle is a wonderfully “raw” medieval fortress, which means it features thick stone walls and moody, atmospheric lighting that can be tricky for inexperienced photographers. As a specialist Neidpath Castle wedding photographer, I understand how to master the low-light conditions of the Great Hall and exactly where to find the best natural light across the battlements. Our photography and film packages include our natural wedding photography style as standard, to ensure your images retain that authentic, historic glow without looking “over-flashed.”
What are the best locations for wedding photos at Neidpath Castle?
For epic, wide-angle portraits, the battlements offer breathtaking views across the River Tweed and the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders. Inside, the Laigh Hall and the vaulted ceilings of the Great Hall provide a dramatic, candlelit backdrop. We also love taking couples down to the riverside for a change of scenery. You can see many of these spots in action in our Scottish wedding photography portfolio.
Does Neidpath Castle suit intimate weddings or elopements?
Absolutely. Neidpath is one of the most popular choices in our guide to the best castle wedding venues in Scotland, thanks to its intimate feel even for smaller groups. Whether you are planning a candlelit elopement for two or a micro-wedding, the castle’s smaller chambers provide a “cocoon-like” atmosphere that looks incredible in photos and on film.
Is there accommodation for the wedding couple at the castle?
Yes, the castle offers the spectacular Queen Mary’s Chamber for the wedding couple, which is also a dream location for “morning-of” preparation photos. For guests, there are on-site options like the Barmkin Cottage, and the nearby town of Peebles offers plenty of further stays. What happens if it rains on our wedding day at Neidpath?
One of the perks of being an experienced Neidpath Castle wedding photographer is knowing that the interiors are just as stunning as the grounds. If the Scottish weather doesn’t play ball, we simply move the photoshoot into the vaulted halls or beside the roaring log fires. These “plan B” shots often turn out to be the most romantic and atmospheric images of the day. If you’re worried about timing, feel free to check our availability to discuss a bespoke schedule for your day.
