Edinburgh George Hotel Wedding Photographer: Karyn & Christopher’s Chic Easter Story

If you ask us for a list of our favourite venues in the city, an Edinburgh The George wedding is undoubtedly near the top. Combine that stunning setting with a super lovely couple like Karyn and Christopher, and you are guaranteed a spectacular day.

From our very first meeting with this wonderful pair, it was an absolute pleasure being in their company. Their Easter wedding was a celebration of love, friendship, and fine style, and we were thrilled to be there to capture it all.

Here are some of our favourite Edinburgh The George wedding photos from Karyn and Christopher’s wonderful day in the city centre.

Morning Preparations in the Forthview Suite

The day began with a buzz of excitement. Jonathon headed to the Forthview Suite to capture the finishing touches of the bridal preparations and photos of the bridal party. At the same time, I was stationed outside the hotel to document guest arrivals.

The atmosphere on George Street was already buzzing. As the Piper played, passers-by stopped to catch a glimpse of the action. One lady asked, “Is this a celebratory wedding?” My response? “Of course!” Karyn and Christopher were certainly the celebrities of their special day!

Karyn looked absolutely sensational. She wore a gorgeous slim-fitting gown by designer Rosa Clara that she had kept top secret—even from her closest friends!—until the big day. Babu Edinburgh styled her beautiful auburn hair into soft, loose waves. When we overheard Karyn asking her guests, “Do you like my dress?”, the answer was a resounding yes. She beamed with happiness, and it shone through in every photo.

A Humanist Ceremony & A Toast to Love

Surrounded by 140 of their dearest friends and family, Karyn and Christopher exchanged vows in a touching Humanist ceremony led by Karen Dickson of the Humanist Society Scotland.

The ceremony was a beautiful reflection of their unique love story. To seal their union, they drank a toast from the temporary quaich—sipping a 12-year-old Balvenie single malt as a nod to their friendship and future together.

We also learned a bit more about what makes them tick. Karyn and Christopher are true “foodies” with a shared love for travel—especially Florence, where Christopher proposed. It was no surprise to hear their honeymoon plans involved flying to NYC (where Karyn noted it’s “all about the food!”) to visit Michelin-starred restaurants before jetting off to the Seychelles for some all-inclusive luxury. What a perfect way to start married life!

Stopping Traffic on George Street

After the ceremony, guests made their way to the New Library for champagne and delicious canapés, including haggis bonbons and mini fish and chips. It was a lovely time for the newlyweds to relax with hugs and kisses from their guests before we headed out for portraits.

We took a short walk to the private Queen Street Gardens for the newlywed photoshoot, capturing beautiful moments in the stunning grounds. But the real fun happened on the way back!

We decided to take some posed photos on the roundabout on George Street. These lovebirds certainly know how to stop traffic! With car horns tooting and strangers shouting congratulations, it was such a fun, spontaneous part of the day.

An Elegant Reception in the King’s Hall

Back at the Edinburgh The George wedding, the impressive King’s Hall had been transformed into a romantic haven by Beautifully Covered. The room looked incredible, featuring tall vases filled with fresh white flowers and luscious green foliage by Save The Date Collective. Candles on mirrored centrepieces and twinkling fairy lights created the perfect ambience.

Karyn and Christopher were piped into the hall to a roar of joyful cheering and clapping. The dinner was punctuated by heartfelt and poignant speeches from Christopher, Karyn’s brother, and the best men, before Uncle Alan led Grace ahead of the delicious wedding breakfast.

Dancing the Night Away

As the evening set in, the King’s Hall was ready for a party. The LED spotlight dancefloor looked inviting, promising a fabulous night ahead.

After cutting their stunning four-tiered cake (another masterpiece by Save The Date Collective), Karyn and Christopher took centre stage. They shared a romantic first dance as husband and wife on the starry-lit floor, watched by all their lovely family and friends.

It was a magical ending to a gorgeous Edinburgh The George wedding day. Karyn and Christopher, thank you for letting us be a part of your adventure!

Edinburgh The George Wedding Photographer 5-Star Reviews

As your experienced photographer for Edinburgh The George weddings, we promise to create fabulous photos of you on your day, but don’t just take our word for it:

  • We had a great time and felt so comfortable!

Jonathon and Claire are the loviest couple… from our very first communication they made us feel special and were so interested in who we are as people! They tailored everything just for us, and had they not radiated such beauty and kindness, we wouldn’t have even known they were there… and for two people like us who HATE getting photos taken, we had a great time and felt so comfortable!
We got married on 31st December, and they gave up their own celebrations with their families to help us capture ours…
We truly hit the jackpot, and wouldn’t ever trust anyone else to capture our special celebrations and moments!
Please don’t pass up the opportunity on having these two look after your special day! Very trustworthy and fantastic value for money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get married at InterContinental Edinburgh The George?

Yes, InterContinental Edinburgh The George is one of the most prestigious wedding venues in Edinburgh’s New Town. Most couples choose the magnificent King’s Hall, with its grand pillars and ornate ceiling, for their ceremony and reception. For more intimate celebrations, the Library offers a sophisticated, book-lined setting for champagne receptions, while the Forthview Suite provides a stunning private terrace for bridal preparations or smaller gatherings.

What is the wedding capacity of the King’s Hall at The George Hotel?

The King’s Hall at the Edinburgh George Hotel can comfortably host up to 140 guests for a wedding ceremony and formal wedding breakfast. For larger evening receptions, the capacity can increase to accommodate up to 200 guests for dancing. If you are planning a smaller celebration, you might also consider a micro-wedding at Edinburgh City Chambers followed by a private dinner in The George’s Library.

Where are the best wedding photo locations near George Street, Edinburgh?

As your Edinburgh The George wedding photographer, we recommend several iconic spots nearby. The George Street roundabout is famous for “stop-traffic” newlywed portraits with the city architecture in the background. Additionally, the venue often provides access to the private Queen Street Gardens, offering a lush, green sanctuary just a short walk from the hotel entrance. For a full list of our “secret” spots, see our guide to the best photo locations in Edinburgh.

Is there outdoor space for photos at the InterContinental Edinburgh The George?

While the hotel is a grand city-centre building, it features the Forthview Suite terrace, which offers incredible views over the Edinburgh skyline towards the Firth of Forth. For ground-level outdoor shots, we typically use the hotel’s elegant facade on George Street or head to the nearby gardens. Do you offer photography and videography packages for Edinburgh George Hotel weddings?

Absolutely. We specialise in a natural, documentary style that captures the chic, city-vibe of The George. We offer combined photography and film packages that allow us to document your day seamlessly without the need for two separate teams. This ensures a consistent artistic style across both your wedding gallery and your cinematic highlight film.

How far in advance should we book an Edinburgh wedding photographer?

Popular Edinburgh city centre venues like The George and The Balmoral Hotel often book out 18–24 months in advance, especially for Saturday dates. We recommend contacting us as soon as your venue is secured to check our availability for your date.
