Michelle and Jamie’s Princes Street Gardens Edinburgh engagement photos session was the perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other better before their wedding day.
The photoshoot occurred in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens, with the final few shots in the middle of the famous street.
It’s a bit surreal taking photos or having your picture taken in front of passing tourists and workers, but Michelle and Jamie were brilliant.
After a few minutes, they were getting into the photo session!

Why have a photoshoot before your wedding?
Shooting Edinburgh engagement photos outdoors at Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens is a truly magical experience, brimming with charm, romance, and iconic backdrops.
Nestled in the city’s heart, this location offers a perfect blend of urban vibrancy and natural beauty, making it an ideal choice for couples preparing for their wedding day.
Princes Street itself provides a dynamic setting.
The bustling energy of Edinburgh’s main thoroughfare, lined with historic architecture, creates a vibrant atmosphere for candid, joyful moments.
Meanwhile, the stunning views of Edinburgh Castle perched high above add a sense of timeless romance to every shot.
It’s easy to capture the couple laughing or holding hands with the iconic castle as a dramatic backdrop—indeed, a fairytale-like composition.
Just a few steps away, Princes Street Gardens offers a serene contrast for our Edinburgh engagement photos.
The lush greenery, winding pathways, and seasonal blooms provide endless opportunities for capturing natural, intimate moments.
The Ross Fountain, with its intricate design, and the distant Scott Monument add depth and elegance to photos.
During golden hour, the gardens glow with warm light, creating a dreamy, ethereal quality that enhances the couple’s connection.
Edinburgh engagement photos are more than just beautiful photos—they are a magical rehearsal for the wedding day.
Couples get to relax in front of the camera, build trust with their photographer, and embrace their unique chemistry without the time pressures of a wedding.
This relaxed atmosphere allows for playful experimentation with poses and locations, ensuring the couple feels at ease and confident.
Shooting at Princes Street and its gardens sets the stage for breathtaking wedding photography.
It captures Edinburgh’s romance while showcasing the couple’s love story against one of the most iconic backdrops in the world.
A true celebration of love and place!
Michelle and Jamie
Michelle and Jamie had travelled from their home in England. Fortunately, the weather was perfect for our photo shoot.
This allowed us to wander through the beautiful Princes Street Gardens and onto the main street, taking photos of the couple at every opportunity.
This lovely couple were a delight to photograph.
They were happy to take a little bit of direction and for me to capture a few unique shots of them using Edinburgh Castle and the blur of a passing bus to create an exceptional selection of photos.
I’m looking forward to their forthcoming wedding.
Michelle and Jamie’s wedding ceremony will occur at Dalhousie Castle, a beautiful setting in Midlothian. We’ve photographed and filmed many couples getting married at his fabulous location and can’t wait to be back there again soon.
Their wedding reception will be held at the beautiful Balmoral Hotel.
These fabulous wedding venues are a favourite for any photographer, offering many fantastic photo opportunities.
