The good bits (Pros)
Four rooms, four moods. Go classic with the Alexander Suite, airy and vintage chic in the European Room, all-out epic grandness in the Council Chamber or opt for basic and simple (and easiest on the wallet) in the Wee Neuk.
Wallet‑friendly. A registrar’s office ceremony is hands‑down the cheapest legal ‘I do’ in town.
Walk‑to‑everything. Cobblestones, closes, and castle backdrops are literally outside the door – no taxi meter running.
Short‑notice friendly. Because ceremonies run all day, you can often secure a date just 4 weeks in advance.
And the not‑so‑good (Cons)
Tourist traffic. It’s the Royal Mile; expect onlookers snapping shots of you on their phone. Especially during Festival time (August)!

Emma and Shaun: When looking for a wedding photographer for our small wedding at the City Chambers in Edinburgh, I came across Love Wedding Photos and Film by chance. They offered a package for the city chambers and this is exactly what we were looking for. Communication prior to the wedding was excellent from Jonathan. We were clear on what we wanted from our photos on the day and Jonathan met our expectations. On the day Jonathan was very kind and you could tell that he knew what he was doing and what locations would look the best in the photographs. We only spent an hour with Jonathan but he made us both feel comfortable. Turn around on our photos was excellent, we expected to wait about 8 weeks as that seems to be the normal amount of time but our photos were back in under 3 weeks from our wedding date. They are lovely quality and Jonathan did and amazing job of capturing some beautiful pictures of our special day.

Elizabeth and Iain: Jonathon was an absolute gem on our wedding day and we would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He was professional, clever and made everyone feel at ease. The photos were absolutely beautiful. Several family members and friends commented that the photos “looked like they were just out of a magazine”, which was due to Jonathon’s talent and experience. We also received a sneak peek by the next day, and the rest of the photos the following week! I would also like to mention that he provided us a very last minute and very discounted videography (tripod) service as my mom, family and friends were all in Canada due to Covid19. I was concerned that the zoom call would malfunction (which it did!). We were impressed with his editing skills as there was a bit of chatter in the background of the zoom call during the ceremony and he managed to remove pretty well all of it. To be honest, it was never our idea to get one – we had our arms twisted by my mum – and we sat down to watch it last week expecting to cringe all the way through but were so surprised at how good it was and how pleased we are now to have it! (although I did have to admit to my mum she was right!) The quality is great, the sound’s excellent and it’s a lovely reminder of the day. We particularly like the way you picked up on our sense of humour and left some funny lines in on the audio. It really feels like the video has been customised for us rather than made-to-formula which I suspect is the case with other companies!

Do I need to provide witnesses For My Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding?
You are required by law to have two witnesses present at your ceremony who are 16 years of age or over and can understand the ceremony. The Registration Department is unable to provide you with witnesses. Your witnesses do not need to bring ID documents on the day unless your chosen witnesses look under 16. If you cannot provide witnesses, you have two options. The first option is to ask a couple of strangers on the street if they would like to witness your marriage ceremony. The alternative that works well for our clients is that, when you hire us as your photographer and have two of us working for you, we are happy to serve as your witnesses at no extra charge. We can supply an additional witness for photo or video packages with one photographer/videographer (contact us to discuss). We recommend scheduling your second witness in advance to avoid stress and inconvenience on your wedding day.
What time should my guests arrive?

As there is strictly no parking available in the Quadrangle during August, you must access it on foot. The nearest vehicle access is George IV Bridge.

You must book your ceremony date directly with the Edinburgh Registrar’s office.
