What a fantastic day I had to create Karen and Stefan’s George Heriot’s school wedding photos.
Founded in 1628, George Heriot’s school is one of Scotland’s oldest and most prestigious.
Former pupils are allowed to get married in the school Chapel.
Karen and Stefan asked me to photograph their wedding day, and as Karen is a former Heriot’s pupil, she was allowed to get married in this beautiful and historic location.

I want to share a few of my favourite photos of Karen and Stefan’s George Heriot’s school wedding day.
A Brief History of George Heriot’s School
George Heriot’s School is a historic gem in the heart of Edinburgh, radiating timeless elegance and charm.
Founded in 1628 by George Heriot, a goldsmith and jeweller to King James VI, the school was initially established as a charitable institution for fatherless boys.
Its stunning architecture exemplifies the Scottish Renaissance style, featuring grand turrets, intricate stone carvings, and a majestic central courtyard.
Over the centuries, the school has grown, yet it remains a proud symbol of Edinburgh’s rich heritage.
As a wedding venue, George Heriot’s School offers a truly magical setting. Its historic buildings and beautifully maintained grounds exude romance and grandeur, providing a fairytale backdrop for your big day.
The school overlooks the iconic Edinburgh Castle, adding an extra layer of enchantment to your photos.
The majestic quad is perfect for dramatic group shots, while the lush gardens offer intimate, picturesque settings for couples’ portraits.
The grandeur of the interiors, with their vaulted ceilings and elegant staircases, adds a sense of regality to every moment.
Whether you’re drawn to its storied past or breathtaking beauty, George Heriot’s School is a unique venue where history and romance intertwine.
It’s a dream location for couples looking for unforgettable wedding memories and stunning, timeless photographs.
Karen and Stefan’s wedding at George Heriot’s School
Sunny, dry and with no wind, it was perfect winter weather for George Heriot’s School wedding photos.
Stefan and his groomsmen all looked very smart in their kilt outfits.
Stefan was nice and relaxed and looking forward to marrying his beautiful bride.
Karen looked stunning as she arrived in a classic Volkswagen Campervan.
Karen looked elegant as she was escorted across The Quadrant to the Chapel.
After the lovely wedding ceremony, everyone went outside to congratulate the newlyweds.
This is one of the best opportunities for taking candid photos of everyone having a great time, hugging and kissing the newlyweds.
After the customary group wedding photos, Karen, Stefan, and I had a few minutes to shoot some beautiful photos on the school grounds.
Edinburgh Castle is only a few hundred feet away.
With unrestricted views of this magnificent backdrop, I just had to grab a few George Heriot’s School wedding photos of the newlyweds with The Castle in the background.
After our photo shoot, we headed across the city centre to Howies Restaurant at Waterloo Place.
This beautiful building was our wedding reception venue for the evening.
I loved the lighting here. Very intimate candlelight created a gorgeous atmosphere.
The rest of my evening was spent capturing candid photos of the celebrations and fun.
I shot some beautiful natural photos of the speeches, cake cutting and the first few dances.
This was a wonderful start to the year, and it was a pleasure to photograph such a lovely couple.
Congratulations to Karen and Stefan; your wedding album will be very special!
