Edinburgh Headshot Photographer with Scottish Rugby legend Doddie Weir at Murrayfield Stadium

It’s great to be back working with ScotlandShop after they hired us as an Edinburgh headshot photographer again.

This time, we were asked to shoot photos at the launch of a new collaboration with Scotland Rugby legend Doddie Weir.

Jonathon did a fantastic job with our photos and video. He captured the day perfectly! We got a video of the ceremony, speeches and first 3 dances which Jonathon was able to do himself with cameras set up and it was amazing to see after. I highly recommend Love Wedding Photos and Film and will use them in the future for any photographer needs I have.

Jonathon recently photographed our wedding and we couldn't be happier with the results. Our families were also extremely pleased and have been creating montages and framing the photos. Jonathon put us at ease and was professional and friendly and created lots of shots in such a short space of time. The communication before hand and after was great especially as there was last minute changes to our wedding. I would definitely recommend. Many thanks.

Sadly, Doddie was diagnosed with incurable motor neurone disease (MND) in 2017.

Doddie soon realised there was a lack of research into treating and curing this disease. Doddie decided to try to do something positive about this situation.

Doddie and Scotland Shop developed a fantastic idea to create a unique tartan based on Doddie’s rugby background.

The tartan colours of blue and white represent the colours of Scotland. The black and yellow shades represent Melrose RFC, the first amateur senior team Doddie played for, and the black and white represent Newcastle Falcons.

We’re delighted to share a few of our favourite photos from the photoshoot with Doddie Weir.

Emily at ScotlandShop created a unique tartan design for various tartan products. Profits from the sale of the tartan products are donated to the ‘My Name’5 Doddie‘ charity.

Scotland Shop invited us to meet with Doddie for the launch of the new tartan at Murrayfield Stadium, the home of Scottish rugby and asked us to create some product photography to promote the launch.

The product photography task was straightforward: create photos of Doddie at various locations in and around Murrayfield Stadium.

Doddie would be wearing a suit made from the striking tartan. The images would be released to the press to promote the new tartan launch and highlight the ‘My Name’5 Doddie’ charity.

This was a big weekend at Murrayfield Stadium as the Scotland rugby team would be playing against England. A quick turnaround of the photos was required, and we were delighted to have the photos ready quickly.

Scottish Television’s film crew were also at Murrayfield to film and interview Doddie during the proceedings, as Doddie would appear on the national news to promote the launch.

As Edinburgh headshot photographers, we quickly and efficiently work on-site for clients on a budget. This requires a blend of preparation, creativity, and resourcefulness. The key is to deliver high-quality images that showcase the product’s best features while keeping the process streamlined and cost-effective.

First, preparation is everything. Before the shoot, we discuss the client’s vision and branding needs to ensure the photos align with their goals.

A portable setup, like a lightweight lightbox, foldable reflectors, and compact lights, can create a professional look on-site without breaking the bank.

These tools help control lighting and eliminate harsh shadows, even in less-than-ideal conditions.

Efficiency comes from working smart. We organise the products and create a shot list in advance, focusing on key angles and features. This minimises setup time and ensures no critical shots are missed. Batch shooting similar products also helps maintain consistency and speed.

For creativity on a budget, we use the location to your advantage. We try to incorporate natural light or on-site elements like textures, props, or backgrounds that complement the product’s style. This adds personality and depth to the images without requiring expensive equipment or post-production.

Lastly, we can use tools like a tripod and tethering software for quick reviews, ensuring we nail the shots in-camera and reduce editing time.

By staying organised, leveraging portable gear, and being resourceful, we can produce stunning, high-impact product photography that delights clients, even on a tight budget.
