Dalmahoy Hotel wedding venue is a truly historic choice for your romantic wedding day.
Dalmahoy Hotel wedding venue is a superb example of a manor house with almost three centuries of history to offer, yet it also comes complete with a wealth of modern amenities and special touches. Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, Kirknewton, Edinburgh, EH27 8EB is settled in a gorgeous countryside location in West Lothian, only 20 minutes outside Edinburgh. The mere seven miles that stretch between the venue and the heart of Edinburgh make it possible to see Edinburgh Castle over the stunning parkland surrounding the house.
The sprawling parkland gives the effect of being almost in the middle of nowhere. This is a true retreat – easy to access, offering beauty from every angle, yet offering convenience and practicality for wedding guests and the happy couple.
We always appreciate the opportunity to film and photograph newlyweds at this location, thanks to its charm and appeal. The more you learn about the Dalmahoy Hotel weddings, the more you realise just how perfect this venue is for your dream wedding.
Steeped in a generous slice of dramatic history, the manor house you see today dates to the 1720s and was designed by Scottish architect and mason, William Adam. While initially built for the youngest offspring of the Earl of Stair, it passed into the hands of the Douglas family in 1760. Even today, a descendant of the Douglas family owns the glorious Estate.
It is said that none other than Mary Queen of Scots visited Dalmahoy. Two of the Douglas brothers played roles in freeing her from her imprisonment at Loch Leven Castle. Indeed, William Douglas freed her before throwing the keys to Loch Leven Castle into Loch Leven itself. Some years later in the 19th century, the keys were discovered upon draining the loch. Those keys are now on the Dalmahoy Estate – a tangible connection to this dramatic link to the past.
Architect William Adam could hardly have imagined Dalmahoy would later be reinvented as a country club, as it was in 1976. Further redevelopment has occurred in subsequent years, yet always with a considerate eye to the past, and to the history of this stunning baronial manor house. With 215 rooms and suites on-site, 1,000 acres of parkland, two golf courses, and much, much more, this is a beautiful self-contained location. It provides everything you could ever want for a memorable wedding.
Bedrooms and Suites
Dalmahoy Hotel offers a range of different room types. Classic Rooms for two are modern and stylish, Period Rooms are influenced by Scottish history and choose from seven spacious suites which are the ideal place to get ready for your wedding. All the rooms include comfortable beds, a Smart TV, free Wi-Fi and coffee and tea making facilities.
Dalmahoy Suite
This is a stunning suite, and versatile too. It includes a dance floor and numerous partitions that can be moved around to suit your needs, according to the size of your wedding party. As such, smaller parties of 50 or so guests will enjoy a smaller space than parties of up to 250 guests. Yet in each case, the size of the suite will be appropriate for your requirements.
This convenient feature of the suite makes it a popular choice for many couples – as does the private bar included within the suite. The open-plan nature of the room also means all your guests will find it easy to see the top table.

Dalmahoy Hotel is a popular wedding venue in West Lothian for couples about to get married or enter a civil partnership. However, many golfers travel for miles to test their skills on two championship golf courses set in the grounds of the hotel. The East Course is laid out to exacting championship standards. Meanwhile, the West Course offers a further challenge with a smaller overall layout.
Thanks to the enviable location, golfers would be forgiven for taking their eyes off the ball to soak in some of the glorious views from the fairways. The Forth Bridge, Edinburgh Castle, and much more can be seen from the golf courses and parklands surrounding the historic manor house.
