Dalmahoy Hotel wedding venue is a truly historic choice for your romantic wedding day.

Dalmahoy Hotel wedding venue is a superb example of a manor house with almost three centuries of history to offer, yet it also comes complete with a wealth of modern amenities and special touches. Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, Kirknewton, Edinburgh, EH27 8EB is settled in a gorgeous countryside location in West Lothian, only 20 minutes outside Edinburgh. The mere seven miles that stretch between the venue and the heart of Edinburgh make it possible to see Edinburgh Castle over the stunning parkland surrounding the house.

The sprawling parkland gives the effect of being almost in the middle of nowhere. This is a true retreat – easy to access, offering beauty from every angle, yet offering convenience and practicality for wedding guests and the happy couple.

We always appreciate the opportunity to film and photograph newlyweds at this location, thanks to its charm and appeal. The more you learn about the Dalmahoy Hotel weddings, the more you realise just how perfect this venue is for your dream wedding.

Steeped in a generous slice of dramatic history, the manor house you see today dates to the 1720s and was designed by Scottish architect and mason, William Adam. While initially built for the youngest offspring of the Earl of Stair, it passed into the hands of the Douglas family in 1760. Even today, a descendant of the Douglas family owns the glorious Estate.

It is said that none other than Mary Queen of Scots visited Dalmahoy. Two of the Douglas brothers played roles in freeing her from her imprisonment at Loch Leven Castle. Indeed, William Douglas freed her before throwing the keys to Loch Leven Castle into Loch Leven itself. Some years later in the 19th century, the keys were discovered upon draining the loch. Those keys are now on the Dalmahoy Estate – a tangible connection to this dramatic link to the past.

Architect William Adam could hardly have imagined Dalmahoy would later be reinvented as a country club, as it was in 1976. Further redevelopment has occurred in subsequent years, yet always with a considerate eye to the past, and to the history of this stunning baronial manor house. With 215 rooms and suites on-site, 1,000 acres of parkland, two golf courses, and much, much more, this is a beautiful self-contained location. It provides everything you could ever want for a memorable wedding.

Bedrooms and Suites

Dalmahoy Hotel offers a range of different room types. Classic Rooms for two are modern and stylish, Period Rooms are influenced by Scottish history and choose from seven spacious suites which are the ideal place to get ready for your wedding. All the rooms include comfortable beds, a Smart TV, free Wi-Fi and coffee and tea making facilities.

Dalmahoy Suite

This is a stunning suite, and versatile too. It includes a dance floor and numerous partitions that can be moved around to suit your needs, according to the size of your wedding party. As such, smaller parties of 50 or so guests will enjoy a smaller space than parties of up to 250 guests. Yet in each case, the size of the suite will be appropriate for your requirements.

This convenient feature of the suite makes it a popular choice for many couples – as does the private bar included within the suite. The open-plan nature of the room also means all your guests will find it easy to see the top table.

The Boardroom

Say your vows inside the beautiful manor house itself by opting to hire the Boardroom. Boasting attractive period features, chandeliers, and amazing views, the Boardroom is the perfect choice for those who want a smaller celebration. A ceremony and wedding breakfast set in this stunning room can accommodate a maximum of 50 guests.

Lothian Room

Another beautiful option within the original manor house, the Lothian Room offers further period features to set the tone for an intimate and small celebration. Large windows allow lots of light into the room, accentuating features including the stunning fireplace – the focal point of the Lothian Room. Couples may invite up to 50 guests to join them for their big day in this room.

Castle Room

Many couples are choosing to keep their wedding or civil partnership celebrations to just their closest friends and family members. A wedding at the Dalmahoy Hotel makes it possible to enjoy all the beauty and history of this building, without the need to hire a large room. The Castle Room is the ideal setting for such a celebration. A maximum of 16 guests can be accommodated here, as the happy couple say their vows before enjoying a meal with their loved ones.

Dalmahoy Golf Course and Grounds

The staircase at the rear of the Dalmahoy manor house is the perfect setting for a group photo of family and friends as well as newlywed photos.

Just as the architecture of the manor house is impressive to see, both inside and out, so too is the surrounding parkland. The views guarantee an incredible array of opportunities for taking newlywed photos. Backdrops of the golf course, the lake, the surrounding area, and the views of Edinburgh itself, provide much inspiration for memorable images.

Dalmahoy Hotel is a popular wedding venue in West Lothian for couples about to get married or enter a civil partnership. However, many golfers travel for miles to test their skills on two championship golf courses set in the grounds of the hotel. The East Course is laid out to exacting championship standards. Meanwhile, the West Course offers a further challenge with a smaller overall layout.

Thanks to the enviable location, golfers would be forgiven for taking their eyes off the ball to soak in some of the glorious views from the fairways. The Forth Bridge, Edinburgh Castle, and much more can be seen from the golf courses and parklands surrounding the historic manor house.

The staff at the Dalmahoy Hotel wedding venue are always on hand to provide assistance throughout your day. Newly-wed photos at Dalmahoy can be taken near the lake, offering some of the best views of the manor house. The staff usually provide transport for the newly-weds and Love Wedding Photos And Film as your photographer or videographer, in the form of one of Dalmahoy’s golf buggies. It’s always good fun whizzing along in one of these alternative ‘wedding cars’!

Matthew – Dalmahoy Hotel and Country ClubMatthew – Dalmahoy Hotel and Country ClubYou’d be hard pushed to find someone more expert in this field in all aspects

Jonathon was kind enough to lend his services to a charity dinner that I organised. The event photography he produced was just outstanding and you’d be hard pushed to find someone more expert in this field in all aspects and I urge you to use him as a first choice.

Sandra H. – Dalmahoy Hotel and Country ClubSandra H. – Dalmahoy Hotel and Country ClubA thoroughly enjoyable experience which was evident in the final result

I was searching for an Edinburgh photographer to take pictures celebrating my husband’s 70th birthday. I had the good fortune to come upon Jonathon’s website and immediately felt that he would be perfect, as family photography is one of his specialist areas.

I was very impressed that he responded very promptly to my initial inquiry and continued to liaise with me very efficiently over the weeks preceding the photo shoot.

We had chosen the Dalmahoy Hotel for the event, a venue which Jonathon knew well and where he was able to select just the perfect backdrops for our photos. There were ten of us in the group, including two small children, but Jonathon put everyone at ease and I can honestly say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience which was evident in the final result.

Many thanks again Jonathon. I would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone looking for an Edinburgh photographer.

Susan and David – Dalmahoy Hotel and Country ClubSusan and David – Dalmahoy Hotel and Country ClubOur video was sensational and we will now treasure it for the rest of our lives.

We used Jonathon as a videographer for our wedding in June 2012. Jonathon is such an easy to get on with guy and makes you feel very comfortable and at ease. We met Jonathon only the once, a year before our wedding as both my husband and I now live in Australia. He was always at hand via emails and facebook whenever we had any questions and made the whole process very smooth.

My husband was very sceptical about wedding videos as all the ones we had seen up until Jonathon's had been the old style videoing with the jittery video and tinny sound. Once I showed him Jonathon's work he soon changed his mind. The whole cinematic look and outcome was amazing. Our video was sensational and we will now treasure it for the rest of our lives.

We could not recommend Jonathon Fowler any higher if we could. You will certainly be impressed by the outcome and be in safe hands from start to finish.
