We had the pleasure of photographing Lyndsay and Richard’s beautiful wedding at Colinton Parish Church, followed by their wedding reception at the Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club. Two exquisite wedding venues for their fairytale wedding.
The morning of the wedding started with candid shots of Groom Richard, his best men and ushers at Dalmahoy Hotel. Making my way to Richard’s room, one of the Dalmahoy Hotel’s beautiful suites, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Richard was in high spirits as he changed into his highland kilted outfit. It was a lovely morning, the atmosphere was happy and laid back, which was down to Richard and his friend’s warmth and kind personalities. The boys had great banter and plenty of laughs as they enjoyed sharing a fine 10-year-old single malt.
Jonathon enjoyed spending the morning of the wedding taking photos of Lyndsay, friends and family getting ready at her parent’s house in Colinton. Jonathon took pictures of Lyndsay’s wedding jewellery, the bridal flowers and of course, her gorgeous wedding dress.
The atmosphere with the girls was lovely and relaxed. Everyone was excited and looking forward to the day ahead. A highlight from the morning was capturing that special ‘first look’ moment when Lyndsay’s Dad saw her in her wedding dress for the very first time.
Lyndsay and Richard chose the stunning, picturesque location of Colinton Parish church for their wedding ceremony. It was the natural choice given the strong family ties held with the church. Colinton Parish church is located near the Water of Leith on Dell Road right in the heart of Colinton Village. With a history dating back to before the 11th Century, Colinton Village is one of the most attractive suburbs in Edinburgh.
Leaving her parent’s home, Lyndsay, her bridesmaids and proud parents made the short walk to Colinton Church. The bridal party were joined by the piper who piped them down the hill and into the church. What a fabulous moment!
Lyndsay looked effortlessly radiant and beautiful in a figure-flattering wedding gown embellished with lace detailing and shimmering crystals. The couple exchanged their wedding vows and said ‘I do’ with a traditional Church of Scotland wedding ceremony that included heartfelt readings. A highlight of the wedding ceremony was when the church fell silent as a guest, and Tenor, Peter Harris performed an outstanding solo rendition of ‘Die stille Lotosblume’. It was emotional, powerful and breathtakingly beautiful in equal measures.
What better way is there to celebrate becoming Mr and Mrs officially than with a confetti shower? Guests lined either side of the path outside the front of the church. A bonus of having two photographers on your wedding day, we take beautiful images of this fun part of the wedding day from in front of and behind the happy couple. The perfect amount of delicate, soft and pretty confetti fell on our newly-weds as their wedding guests cheered their congratulations.
Everyone then made their way for the wedding reception at Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, where the newly-weds were congratulated by their family and friends. It was time for ‘fizz, canapes and say cheese!’ Everyone enjoyed the champagne drinks reception and some delicious tasting canapes in the Cocktail Bar located in the original Manor House. We loved all the unique little touches. Old pictures of Lyndsay and Richard dotted about the bar. “love is sweet, please take a treat” beside some cute little cupcakes. And a photo guestbook for guests to strike a pose, take a snap, add it to the guest book and show the happy couple some love!
With great weather, it was the ideal opportunity to get Lyndsay and Richard, all their friends and family gathered together outside on the staircase for a group photo at Dalmahoy Hotel.
Guests moved onto the sun-soaked terrace overlooking Dalmahoy Hotel’s championship-standard golf course as the newly-weds posed for a few traditional-style group photos taken by Jonathon.
Time for some alone time. Just our fabulous newly-weds (and Jonathon) whisked away on the back of a golf buggy. Off they went to explore the grounds that Dalmahoy has to offer as the perfect backdrop to some fabulous newly-wed photos.
While Jonathon took photos of the happy couple kissing between the trees, I was able to capture those wonderfully candid moments while all the wedding guests mingled and relaxed. This, for me, has to be one of the best parts of every wedding day. I love to mingle with the wedding guests, anticipate the funny punch-line being delivered, enjoying watching their reactions and ensuring that special moment is captured. It was great to see all of Lyndsay and Richard’s wedding guests so relaxed and enjoying the atmosphere.
The Dalmahoy Suite, the main function room at the Dalmahoy Hotel, offers both luxury and versatility in equal measure. The suite hosted the delicious wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. Jonathon and I took detailed images of the room set up and all the small details that made Lyndsay and Richard’s wedding reception unique.
The suite looked absolutely beautiful. Vases filled with the most beautiful fresh white hydrangea’s, thistles and dusty pink roses sat elegantly on round mirrors surrounded by scented candles. Small wedding favour boxes with the initials L&R placed at each table setting, filled with a delicious sweet treat. Wine cork place cards and a delicate mint organza chair bow completed the look.
Lyndsay and Richard welcomed their guests in a traditional receiving line. Guests took their seats in the Dalmahoy Suite. The air was full of love and the crowd rapturous as the newly-weds were piped to their top table. A wee dram to thank the piper for his duties and then it was straight into the humourous and heartfelt speeches.
The evening celebration began in style when Lyndsay and Richard took centre stage to cut their beautiful 4-tiered wedding cake. A second wedding cake was a delicious fruit cake that had been beautifully decorated with Scottish heather and a purple ribbon.
An excellent opportunity for the guests to take a few photos before Lyndsay and Richard enjoyed their first dance together as husband and wife. It didn’t take long for the happy couple to be joined on the dancefloor with all their wedding guests as the fantastic band Callanish provided the evening entertainment.
