We were honoured to be asked to film Suzie and Kevin’s Bellfield Portobello wedding at this beautiful venue in Edinburgh.
It’s always fun visiting new Edinburgh wedding venues, and this was our first ever wedding at this beautiful venue.
From the very first contact we had with Claire and Jonathan we felt relaxed and in safe hands. They were responsive and open with us from the start. I’d already fallen in love with their videos (crying at other people’s weddings) so it was an easy decision to go with them for my own wedding. We prioritised a video over photos and I’m so glad we did. We got the package which includes the highlight video so we have feature length (for anniversary watching!) and a brilliant highlight video that we’ve loved sharing with family and friends. I really loved that we could pick all the music for it. It makes it so much more personal. On the wedding day Claire and Jonathan went with our flow and captured so many beautiful moments that we will treasure forever. We were sad to say goodbye when they left the wedding! Bellfield Portobello Wedding Video
We’re delighted to share all the ‘best bits’ from Suzie and Kevin’s brilliant day in this short highlights edit, with all the music specially chosen by the newlyweds.
Our final event before lockdown
Little did we know that our fantastic day filming as Edinburgh wedding videographers would be our last big event for several months due to the impending COVID lockdown and restrictions.
The video’s opening song, chosen by our newlyweds as a backing track, was Elbow’s ‘One Day Like This’.
We can’t think of a better song to sum up our feelings, as so much of everyday life, which many of us took for granted, came to a shuddering halt.
Bridal preparations
Our Bellfield Portobello wedding began with filming the bride’s bridal preparations.
The house was full of people, with a lovely and relaxed atmosphere.
Her family joined Suzie in the morning. Her parents, sisters, bridesmaids, and beautiful nieces all served as flower girls.
Hairstylist Peter Melon and makeup artist Ingrid Peregrina from Medusa were in full swing.
Catching candid footage of everyone getting ready and getting their glam on was lovely!
Jonathon filmed our bride’s beautiful Phase Eight dress, the bridesmaids’ dresses and shoes.
What a great way to start the day!
Pre-ceremony at Bellfield
Upon arrival at Bellfield, we set up the equipment to film the couple’s marriage ceremony from multiple angles.
Bellfield, now a community hub, was once the former Portobello Old Parish Church in the heart of Portobello and Joppa.
An ample, versatile wedding space, it was the perfect venue for this special day.
Groom Kevin, his Ushers and his Best Man were on hand to meet and greet guests as they arrived at the venue. Kevin looked dapper in his full kilt outfit from Janet Eagleton MBE.
Humanist ceremony
Candice Dillen of Humanist Society Scotland conducted the wedding ceremony, which began with the naming of our newlyweds’ adorable two-year-old son, Oscar.
We enjoyed filming and photographing a wonderfully personal marriage ceremony.
Watching and filming the ceremony and hearing how this adorable couple met was a joy.
It was great to capture the reactions of family and guests as our happy couple became husband and wife!
Drinks reception and photoshoot
After the Humanist ceremony, guests were invited onto the stage for a group photo with the newlyweds.
Guests then moved into the foyer, where they enjoyed drinks and canapés.
Claire stayed with the guests, capturing all the fun of the drinks reception as everyone relaxed, made new friends and caught up with old friends.
Jonathon and our newlyweds headed to nearby Portobello Beach to film some fabulous newlywed footage and relaxed wedding photography in Edinburgh.
Jonathon filmed the newlyweds having moments of ‘alone time’ where they could catch their breath before heading back to the bustle at Bellfield.
Speeches and party
The large hall was beautifully decorated for the wedding breakfast and evening reception.
Round tables with flickering candles peeking out of green foliage and gold glitter crowns for the children.
And for the adults, bottles of booze were donated from Kevin’s Mum and Dad’s drink cabinet!
The evening celebrations of this Bellfield Portobello wedding started in style with heartfelt speeches from our bride’s Dad, groomsman Kevin, our beautiful bride, Suzie, and Best Man Duncan.
Surrounded by their friends and family in a room with love and happiness, the newlyweds cut their wedding cake to rapturous applause!
Our day filming this Bellfield Portobello wedding drew to a close as our newly married couple took to the dancefloor for their first dance as husband and wife.
They held each other close as we filmed them dancing to their special song, which had the most wonderfully chilled Ibiza vibe!
Suzie couldn’t have put it better when she advised us after watching her video, “We’re up at my parents’ house, on their 44th wedding anniversary, celebrating phase 3 (easing of COVID restrictions) and watching this. I feel like the wedding and then getting the video today have been bookends to an extraordinary time.”
