The Balmoral Hotel Wedding Photographer: Adrienne & Mark Luxurious Summer Wedding

Creating Balmoral Hotel wedding photos is always a highlight of our year. The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh is arguably one of Scotland’s most iconic and luxurious venues and features as one of our best wedding venues in Edinburgh!

Situated at No. 1 Princes Street, with its majestic clock tower dominating the skyline, it boasts stunning architecture, elegant interiors, and world-class service.

It was the perfect setting for Adrienne and Mark, who chose this historic 5-star venue for their luxury wedding in August. We were honoured to be their photographers and to capture the story of their unforgettable day.

“We cannot thank Jonathon and Claire enough for their talent and dedication to their photography and film for our wedding at The Balmoral. They are true professionals and such lovely people, we cannot recommend them highly enough”.

Here are some of our favourite Balmoral Hotel wedding photos from Adrienne and Mark’s fabulous day in Edinburgh.

Morning Preparations and The Perfect Gift

Our Balmoral Hotel wedding photos coverage began in the morning with a buzz of excitement. Adrienne spent the morning getting ready in one of the Balmoral’s luxurious bridal suites, enjoying a morning of pampering by her hair and make-up stylists.

Down the hall, Mark and his best man prepared in a separate room. Mark looked incredibly dapper, opting for a sleek, all-black tuxedo and bow tie—a modern, sophisticated look that perfectly suited the grandeur of the venue.

One of the most touching moments of the morning was capturing Adrienne opening a pre-wedding gift from Mark. The room was filled with awe as she unveiled an exquisite sapphire-and-diamond necklace. It was a beautiful symbol of their love and commitment, and the perfect finishing touch to her bridal look before she slipped into her stunning lace wedding dress.

A Ceremony in the Sir Walter Scott Suite

The marriage ceremony took place in the Sir Walter Scott Suite. The room’s natural grandeur was enhanced by elegant styling, featuring tall vases brimming with delicate gypsophila.

The atmosphere was electric as the music began. Adrienne looked radiant and elegant as she walked down the aisle with her father, smiling broadly as she made her way toward Mark.

Surrounded by their closest family and friends, the couple exchanged vows and wedding rings against the backdrop of the suite’s large windows. The joy in the room was palpable as they were pronounced husband and wife, sealing their union with a kiss to the delight of their guests.

Rooftop Views and Champagne Celebrations

Following the ceremony, Adrienne and Mark were met with warm embraces and congratulations. We captured candid moments of guests mingling during the fabulous champagne reception—from laughter shared between friends to the clinking of glasses.

We took a small selection of formal group photos with close family on the grand staircase, utilising the hotel’s ornate stained-glass windows as a dramatic backdrop.

However, no Balmoral Hotel wedding is complete without a trip to the roof. We stole the newlyweds away for a few quiet moments to capture some truly unique portraits. With the sun beginning to set and the bustling street scenes of Edinburgh far below, the rooftop offered the perfect vantage point. The photos of Adrienne and Mark against the iconic city skyline are some of our favourites from the day.

An Evening of Joy

The celebration continued into the evening with a reception filled with love, laughter, and joy. The speeches were a highlight, with the groom and speakers eliciting plenty of laughter from the guests.

After cutting their multi-tiered white wedding cake, Adrienne and Mark took to the floor for their first dance, smiling joyfully as a live band performed. The dance floor soon filled up, with guests partying the night away.

It was a privilege to document Adrienne and Mark’s special day at such a prestigious Edinburgh venue.

As your experienced photographer for The Balmoral Hotel weddings, we promise to create fabulous photos of you on your day, but don’t just take our word for it:

We had a great time and felt so comfortable!

Jonathon and Claire are the loveliest couple… from our very first communication, they made us feel special and were so interested in who we are as people! They tailored everything just for us, and had they not radiated such beauty and kindness, we wouldn’t have even known they were there… and for two people like us who HATE getting photos taken, we had a great time and felt so comfortable!
We got married on 31st December, and they gave up their own celebrations with their families to help us capture ours…
We truly hit the jackpot, and wouldn’t ever trust anyone else to capture our special celebrations and moments!
Please don’t pass up the opportunity on having these two look after your special day! Very trustworthy and fantastic value for money.

Frequently Asked Questions: Planning Your Balmoral Hotel Wedding

What are the best locations for Balmoral Hotel wedding photos?

The Balmoral offers some of the most iconic backdrops in Scotland. Inside, the grand staircase and the opulent Sir Walter Scott Suite provide a classic, high-end feel. For outdoor portraits, its position at 1 Princes Street allows us, as your Edinburgh wedding photographer, to capture shots with the Scott Monument or Calton Hill in the background, all within a short walk of the hotel lobby.

How many guests can a wedding at The Balmoral Hotel accommodate?

The Balmoral is one of the most versatile luxury wedding venues in Edinburgh. For grand celebrations, the Sir Walter Scott Suite can host up to 250 guests for a wedding breakfast, offering stunning views of the Edinburgh skyline. For those planning a more intimate celebration, the hotel also offers smaller, elegant suites ideal for elopements or micro-weddings.

Is there a dedicated space for wedding ceremonies at The Balmoral?

Yes, The Balmoral is fully licensed for civil, religious, and humanist ceremonies. Most couples choose the Holyrood Suite or the Sir Walter Scott Suite for their “I dos.” If you are considering a church ceremony nearby before heading to the hotel for your reception, many couples look at venues like The Signet Library or local Old Town churches for their historic charm.

What makes Balmoral Hotel wedding photography unique?

Wedding photography at The Balmoral is defined by its “old world” glamour and city-centre sophistication. Unlike at more rural locations like Prestonfield House, a Balmoral wedding offers a mix of high-fashion interior shots and gritty, romantic Edinburgh street photography. The hotel’s vantage point offers a unique perspective of the city that is impossible to replicate elsewhere. We love shooting Balmoral Hotel wedding photos!

Can we have a wedding film produced alongside our photography at The Balmoral?

Absolutely. The grand scale of the hotel, from the piper at the entrance to the ballroom dancing, is best captured through a combination of still images and cinema. We offer bespoke wedding photography and film packages designed to capture the atmosphere of the Balmoral in a cohesive style, ensuring your wedding video matches the luxury aesthetic of your photo gallery.

How do I check your availability for a Balmoral Hotel wedding date?

Because The Balmoral is one of the most popular luxury venues in the city, our diary often fills up 18-24 months in advance. To see if we are available for your date and to discuss your vision for your day, please get in touch via our contact form below.
