Although a wedding videographer in Edinburgh it was great to be back in Fife filming Lynn and Mike’s University Of St Andrews wedding video. I love this part of Scotland. With its beautiful town and massive beach, St Andrews is the perfect seaside town. Lynn and Mike’s wedding took place at the lovely Upper and Lower College Halls, which form part of the University Of St Andrews.
I had an early start on this wedding day. I like to arrive at the wedding venue at least an hour before the ceremony. This gives plenty of time to film the opening ‘establishing’ shots of the wedding venue. When I film these opening shots I’m ‘setting the scene’ for what’s about to happen. I love capturing detail shots of all the little things which add up to make your wedding day unique. The flowers, the order of service, the wedding rings, the kilt pin and lots of other little, but important, details.
Once those shots are filmed it’s time to meet and film the groom and guests as they arrive. A lot of attention is obviously focused on a bride, but it’s important to remember the groom, too! So I film the groom, ushers and page boys as they wait to meet and greet the guests. Depending on the wedding venue, some grooms like to head for the bar and grab their last pint as an unmarried man! Others have a wee hip flask and I like to try and capture them taking a swig of the whisky!
Presented here is a small selection of short video clips from Lynn and Mike’s film, beginning with the opening chapter of Lynn and Mike’s University Of St Andrews wedding video.

This short film shows highlights of everyone arriving for the wedding ceremony, and a few details shots, too.
Upper and Lower College Halls Wedding Reception
This was a beautiful day to film a wedding. We were fortunate with the weather, with the sun shining most of the day. Lynn and Mike are a really lovely couple and were good fun to be around. As the sun was shining everyone made the most of the lovely weather and made their way outside onto the lawn of the Quadrant for a glass of celebratory champagne. This is my first visit to Upper and Lower College Halls, and I was impressed by the wedding venue and staff. It’s really nice having a bit of outdoor space, there’s something really nice about filming people enjoying themselves as they have a glass of champagne outdoors on a lawn.
This short video shows highlights of the champagne reception and photo shoot. It also shows detail shots of the Lower College Hall. This is where the wedding breakfast and speeches took place. For part of the film, I use a camera slider which allows me to film cinematic tracking shots. You can see where this is used as the camera slowly ‘glides’ across the scene.
Newly-weds on Swilken Bridge
I filmed the rest of the day up until the first few dances. Before the evening party got underway, Lynn, Mike and I jumped into my car and headed over to St Andrews Old Course.
This ancient golf course is renowned internationally as ‘the home of golf’ and is probably the most famous golf course in the world. The photos and video below show the newly-weds on the famous and iconic Swilken Bridge.
The Swilken Bridge crosses the Swilken burn and is crossed by all players on their way to the 18th hole. Every time there’s been an Old Course championship shown on television, you can see the players crossing this famous landmark. I filmed the photo shoot as events unfolded. There wasn’t much time to capture video, as the sun was quickly setting. But in the short time we had, I captured some gorgeous video footage of Lynn and Mike.
This short video shows the highlights of the photo shoot at Swilken Bridge, which took place in the early evening. The backing music used in the edit was chosen by the newly-weds.
A short trip back to Upper College Hall where I stayed into the evening to cover the first few dances.
Great to be back in Fife and St Andrews. Thanks to Lynn and Mike, you were a pleasure to film.
Here’s a wee sneak peek preview of the wedding day with a few wedding photos I’ve captured from the wedding video. Enjoy!
