I love filming a wedding video at Lennoxlove House. Lennoxlove House is one of my favourite wedding venues in East Lothian. I often mention the weather when writing blog posts about weddings I’ve filmed and photographed. This year has been pretty decent weather – so far. I’ll get this out of the way – Saturday was the worst weather I’ve experienced in many years of filming weddings! Rain like you wouldn’t believe. But not enough to dampen the spirits of Kate and Markos, who were married at this exquisite East Lothian wedding venue.
This was one of the biggest weddings I’ve been to for a while, with around 180 in attendance. And what a wedding! I was booked for all-day wedding video coverage. I filmed from the wedding party preparations prior to the ceremony, right up until the fireworks display in the evening. A long but feature-packed day.
The day started with me filming Kate and the girls having their hair styled, make-up applied and general champagne sipping. Great fun to be there and capture all the atmosphere and excitement. A highlight was the exchange of gifts between Kate and Markos. Kate presented Markos (via her Bridesmaids) a humidor full of cigars and a bottle of 40-year-old whiskey. Markos had bought Kate a stunning diamond ring, Kate and the girls couldn’t believe how gorgeous the ring is!
The wedding ceremony took place in one of three marquees (the other two being used for the wedding breakfast and the dancing). This was a multiple-camera shoot, with one camera covering the ceremony from the side of the altar, the other from the rear of the aisle. This was a traditional Scottish religious ceremony, with music provided by the brilliant Allestri Quartet.
A real shame about the weather, this meant no outdoor photos or filming. Though if there is any wedding venue to be inside during wet weather then it is certainly Lennoxlove House. With the Great Hall and numerous grand rooms, this was the place to be for indoor wedding photos!
The newly-weds were piped into the marquee to rapturous applause. This is always a highlight of any wedding day. After the sumptuous wedding breakfast provided by the ever fantastic Heritage Portfolio, it was time for the speeches. Like the wedding ceremony, these were filmed with two full hi-definition cameras. One camera covered a wide-angled shot of the top table, the other used to capture close-ups of reactions to what was being said. Very witty and entertaining speeches, followed by the cutting of the wedding cake with a military sword.
Then something I don’t get to see at many weddings, the Bride throwing her bouquet to all the single ladies. Great fun to watch and film!
The third marquee had been set up as a mini ‘Buddha Bar’, with comfy sofas, cocktail bars and lush décor. Very cool and not what you find at a typical wedding. Another treat for the guests was the shisha area, where guests could try an assortment of flavoured tobaccos smoked in a hookah (water-cooled pipe).
This brilliant wedding day ends with me filming a fire-dancer show, followed by an amazing fireworks display.
What a day in such a wonderful location. It really was amazing from start to finish and a real privilege to film at this wonderful venue for a wedding. Congratulations to Kate and Markos!
