What a pleasure to be filming Joanna and Will’s wedding videography at Balbirnie House Hotel.
A gorgeous day, with beautiful sunshine just perfect for filming Joanna and Will’s wedding day. As always, I arrived nice and early to enable some filming of Cramond Kirk before the arrival of the wedding party and guests. This was a two-camera shoot, with both cameras filming from balconies. Because of this, I reckon I had the best view of the wedding ceremony!
Groom Will is from Ireland, so there was a decent number of guests who’d travelled from the Emerald Isle. Bride Joanna looked gorgeous, very happy, calm and relaxed. I knew this was going to be an amazing day.
After a really nice ceremony and the signing of the marriage schedule, the newly-weds were able to make the most of the autumn sunshine and mingle with their guests in the grounds of Cramond Kirk. It was great to film everyone laughing, smiling and congratulating Joanna and Will, always one of the highlights of the day for me.
Wedding Reception at Balbirnie House Hotel
The wedding reception venue was about an hour away at the beautiful Balbirnie House Hotel, in Markinch, Fife. This is the sixth time this year that I’ve had the pleasure of filming at Balbirnie House Hotel. After a quick blast up the motorway, it was straight into filming the champagne reception in the lush grounds of Balbirnie House. This was the perfect setting on such a sunny day, it’s always nice to be able to work outdoors. Especially in the late afternoon when the sun is just starting to go down and the light is just perfect for filming.
The newly-weds were piped into the Ballroom and straight into cutting their wedding cake, always a great photo opportunity for the guests.
The speeches were after the wedding breakfast, so there was time for me to relax while everyone enjoyed their meal.
I thoroughly enjoyed filming the speeches. I guess the argument for doing speeches after the meal is that everyone has had a chance to relax, have a drink or two and unwind a bit after the whirlwind that went before. These speeches were very entertaining and as I filmed them with two cameras the edit will be that more interesting to watch than a single camera shoot.
Evening Celebration At Balbirnie House Hotel
My day finished with me filming the first few dances. The entertainment was provided by top wedding band Callanish, who I’ve filmed and photographed on many occasions. They never fail to get everyone up on the dance floor and having a great time. I filmed the dances with two cameras. One camera filming Callanish, the other mounted on my Steadicam rig filming the dancing. This allows me to create a wonderfully cinematic shot of the dancing. I walk around the outside of the dance floor while the newly-weds dance in the middle of the floor. It’s always great to watch and couples always love seeing this. It’s a unique way to end your wedding video and highly recommended.
Congratulations to the lovely Joanna and Will, you were such fun guys to film and made my role all the more enjoyable.
