Most of the time I’m creating photos of people. Wedding photography, commercial photography and family photography that I create involve shooting pictures of people. It also usually means working to a schedule and delivering the final images within a deadline.
Landscape Photographer Gallery
The Landscape photographer aspect of what I do is one of my favourite disciplines in the art of photography.
Creating landscape photos couldn’t be more different. Clearly, when you see the pictures in this gallery, you can see that thought and creativity have gone into creating each image. The main difference between the photography mentioned above and landscape photography is that I shoot landscapes in my own time, I can take as long as I like, there’s no pressure to complete the shoot or deliver the photos.
Landscape photography takes me to a different place mentally. Many of the pictures of landscapes in this gallery involve long shutter times, usually several minutes long. After using my light meter to calculate the time to expose the photo, I have to sit and wait while the camera captures the picture. Sitting outside, waiting 10 or more minutes for the countdown to end, means time to relax and think and take in the beauty of my surroundings in a way that is different from my other photographs.
The countdown to the shutter closing is an exciting time. When the shutter clicks closed the anticipation of the photos appearing on the camera’s LCD screen can be nerve-wracking and exciting. Have I just wasted 10 or more minutes of my life and underexposed the image? Or does a thing of beauty appear before my eyes, capturing the scene in a way that isn’t possible with my own eyes?
I hope you enjoy this gallery of my landscape photos. The pictures were mostly shot in or around Edinburgh and East Lothian. If you can, please take a look at my other photo galleries displaying my wedding photography, commerical photography, family portraits, street photography and pre-wedding photos of couples.
